So we all know sexism is abound in our media culture... but it's not just confined to Clintons. Today on FAUX news we have this jaw-dropping exchange.

Check out the fabulous text in the clip below:

Holy-race baiting batman. Obama's Baby Mama! Are you F-ing kidding me! Seems like the GOP is trying to do to MO what they did to HRC in the 90's.

This is beyond insulting. The racism and sexism of this attempt to undermine a woman of intelligence and dignity like Michelle Obama, and to try to smear Barack and Michelle by attempting to portray the woman who has been his wife and partner for 20 years as some sort of 'Baby Momma'.

You gotta be kidding me.

h/t to Alex Koppelman at Salon ( http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2 008/06/11/fox_obama/index.html ). Who points out that Michelle Malkin tried to suggest commenters at his magazine were criticizing Michelle... only to find that said comments do not exist. That's odd, cause it's not like Michelle Malkin to just make shit up.

Thanks for the nice work, but as I mentioned in the thread on Kos, Obama introduced Michelle as his Baby Mama, ironically, in many of his early campaign stops. I thought it was really cute, reclaiming a phrase, and spinning it with love. If he was speaking at an AA audience, they just went nuts.

I'm sure that's where Fox grabbed it from. Though, it's one thing when a husband says it ironically of his wife, and quite another when a third party uses the term to denigrate.

But none of this changes the real issue at play: Republicans hate strong women. Which is further ironic given that the best thing going for the entire party is Sarah Palin Governor of AK (whom I'm not so secretly in love with.)

I'm 90% certain he used it at his Iowa victory speech. But I heard him use it a number of times around then -- that's really when I began following his campaign. I'm sure someone in the media will bring it up if this becomes an issue.

But again, that really doesn't matter, because it's one thing if a husband says it in ironically with love (I think the exact phrasing was "And the rock of the Obama family, my Babys Mama, give it up for Michelle Obama") and quite another when it's used by a third party who doesn't have standing to make that kind of comment.

No. As I said, the Republicans hate strong women. The floating of Palin's name is similar to how they're forwarding Bobby Jindal's name: a publicity stunt while the wink and mutter "see, see, we have non-white men too."

Completely agree. Don't kid yourself; there are FAR too many racists and sexists in the GOP (ie, old wealthy white men who long for the good old days) to allow for the nomination of anyone but a middle-aged to older wealthy white man for top and bottom.

Agree entirely. The Jindal thing was a joke. What possible benefit would picking him bring to McCain? It was a calculated ploy to highlight the fact that the guy who was their only non-white congressman is now their only non-white governor.

Us Clinton supporters, while I doubt EvilAsh is one, but for the former Clinton supporters reading, this is why we lost. We didn't bitch enough as to get numbers and call up. We also didn't do this during the Clinton years, when a huge difference would have been made.

I already have. I didn't before, and I'm sorry for ever arguing about it. It's just a bunch of little things you hear over a few months at a time when a week seems like an eternity. But when you add them all up, it makes things pretty clear.

I never argued that there wasn't sexism in the media. For God's sake, Chris Matthews is a one man wrecking crew.
I just wasn't sure it was substantially worse than the 'soft' racism (Is Obama black enough?). I'm not sure any of us know for sure, because nobody here is really neutral, and attacks on your candidate ALWAYS look worse than attacks on the others.

I agree with EvilAsh. Not to mention, many of the people who complained about sexism in the race also blamed Obama, his campaign and/or his supporters in the same breath.

Although people may have disagreed with the amount of sexism, its impact on the outcome, or other variables like that, I don't think many serious Obama supporters denied that there was sexism.

In order to be 7th on the list, "rhymes with bitch" couldn't, as a numerical matter, have been higher than 14 percent. In reality, this response probably didn't garner more than five percent of the responses. And this survey included Republicans.

Yet, Russert thought that this vulgar word used to characterize Clinton, suggested by only a small group of a nationally representative sample, was somehow worthy of a Sunday morning news show. That's sexist and that's the talking heads trying to drive the narrative in a vulgar and negative direction.

The crawl reads "Malkin calls Michelle Obama Barack's "Bitter Half", and the "Obama's Baby Mama" line.

I found the quote for you. (It seems when you google "Michelle Obama" "scratch Bill Clinton's eyes" you just get a bunch of people on such places as NoQuarter repeating. In the comments. But I found it.)

In Wisconsin, I asked her if she was offended by Bill Clinton's use of the phrase 'fairytale' to describe her husband's characterisation of his position on the Iraq war. At first, Obama responded with a curt 'No'.

But, after a few seconds, she affected a funny voice. 'I want to rip his eyes out!' she said, clawing at the air with her fingernails. One of her advisers gave her a nervous look. 'Kidding!' Obama said. 'See, this is what gets me into trouble.'

HA! That? That is what people have been getting their undies in a twist over - an obvious joke?

Let me say up front, I'll boycott all news sources and their advertisers who goes after Michelle Obama. I'll scream from the roof tops about any injustice wrecked upon her.

But you have to understand the press will go after Michelle for anything. And it will be worse when she actually makes a mistake and says something dumb, as she surely will (and already has.)

Michelle Obama's problem is that she's smart and well-educated and articulate and thoughtful and opinionated. And she doesn't have Barack Obama's charm. Very familiar profile, I'm afraid.

So brace yourself. Be prepared to fight. But also be prepared to reflect. The press and the talking heads and the conservative blogs are going to go after Michelle just like they went after Hillary Clinton from day 1 of Bill's Presidency. They didn't like the hat she wore to the inauguration. Then they didn't like her cookie recipe. Then they didn't like her health plan. Then they didn't like her hair. Then they didn't like it when she changed her hair. Then they blamed her for Bill's wandering eye.

All those high negatives much vaunted by Obama supporters and the vulgar bile they elicited from the so-called Progressive blogs were created by the sexist press during Bill's Presidency.

So, I'll join you in the fight to defend Michelle against a repeat. I've seen it before. I know how pernicious it is. And I don't want to see it again. I'll leave it to you to draw your own lessons.

I learned in the 90's how the right-wing establishment treats high-profile politician's wives who don't toe the line and aren't afraid to speak their mind. I've already been well aware of what one blogger has called The Hillary-ization of Michelle Obama.

But tell me, shouldn't we be the ones who stop such smears? Rather than create and advance them? It was my understanding places like MyDD existed to keep the right-wing media in-check.

But intellectual honesty demands that people decrying attacks on Michelle Obama acknowledge the same for Hillary Clinton.

It is essential for the interests of progressive values and women that part of the ultimate narrative of the 2008 Presidential campaign include the case that sexism and misogyny were a distinctive characteristic of this contest and that so-called progressives were some of the worst offenders.

"baby mama" sounds like rapper lyrics to most whites. It is not so much "racism" as a distaste for the rapper influence on American culture. EMINEM is WHITE, yet I guarantee most middle-aged Americans find him distastful.
